Perfectly Content?

Emmanuel Women’s Day: Saturday 3rd February 2018

“Perfectly Content”

  • Does contentment often seem more a fleeting ideal than a daily reality?
  • When did I last say “It is enough. I am content in the salvation of God through Christ”?
  • Do I expect God to rubber stamp my ideals and ambition, rather than me pursuing His will?

When we buy into the lie of believing “You can have it all” or think we can only be happy “if…” the result is deep frustration: what we want remains just out of reach.  Always.  No matter how good we have it, no matter how good the times may get, we never quite reach the perfection we aspire to.  And along the way we make ourselves stressed, anxious and miserable!

But God desires something far better and more lasting for His children.  He gives us the secret in His word, assuring us that satisfaction, contentment and perfection are to be found in Jesus Christ.

Join us on Saturday 3rd February 2018 as we learn together from the Bible about real contentment and true perfection.

In the morning Carrie Sandom (Associate Minister for Women at St John’s Tunbridge Wells, and Director of Women’s Ministry for the Proclamation Trust) will be teaching us on contentment from the book of Philippians.

In the afternoon Dean Foley (experienced Biblical Counsellor) will lead a seminar on the topic of perfectionism, helping us to consider whether we might be ‘perfectionists’, whether pursuing perfection is ever good, and where our true sense of value and self-esteem lies.  There is a Biblical perspective on this and it may surprise us…
